Smile

:)  The song I'm currently hearing is about smiling.  I think smiling is a powerful thing.  Working in customer service makes me a constant smiler.  I'll be walking through the grocery store on my day off in my street clothes, and I can't help but smile.  Why?  It's programmed into my brain that I need to smile at everyone.  I don't consider myself an optimist or a pessimist for that matter.  I'm a realist...more like a realist with an edge of optimism :)  I meet people with an appropriate amount of trust in them.  Don't you hate those who think that new people in their lives must prove themselves?  I understand that not everyone is trustworthy, honest, and ethical, but give everyone a chance.  Just keep your guard up until you know you can safely let it down.

I've found myself becoming less pessimistic as I've gotten older; isn't it usually the other way around?  You're a young, innocent child without a care in the world.  As you age, you notice that things aren't perfect:  people lie, cheat, accuse, use.  So, you'd think you'd lose your happiness?  I think I did get that way though.  I lost my innocent optimism and became cynical.  I put my guard up and watched people moreso than before.  I think after being truly exposed to the world and experiencing some of the more unfortunate sides of life, I was able to grow, mature, and accept what cannot be changed.  I am one person.  Things that have been around forever will not easily be fought by just one.  I'm not saying that I'm just going sit back and take it.  I'm going to smile, accept, and be thankful for what I have.

Keep Quiet

I'm usually a pretty quiet person.  I have a slight voice and not much to say.  In fact, in social situations, I am anxious and therefore shy, with even less to say.  I am also a person of justice.  I want things done the right way by the right people.  If something doesn't make sense to me, I want it to.  My curiosity gets the best of me as I always ask, "Why?"  I do not fully comprehend until I know why either.

These two traits aren't particulary complementary of each other.  Although I want to know why, am I really going to ask since that involves speaking up?  In most cases the risk is worth it.  In many other cases, though, it is not.

Imagine you're in a group project for school.  There are four of you, most of whom you don't know.  Quickly, it is known throughout the group who are the leaders and who are the slackers.  Two people definitely stick out as the ones to watch.  You work together throughout the quarter to finish the massive amounts of group work, with the final project looming.  The due date creeps up, so the group meets to put the parts together.  After a short perusal of a slacker's portion of the project, you realize:  this is not going to work at all.  AT ALL!  The entire part must be redone, what were they thinking, how are we going to finish.  Yes, everything works out in the end, but that's because you do double the work.  The class ends the day the project is due.  Is it worth it to speak up?

In this case, which happened one many occasions while trenching through business school, the most group-happy organization that I've come across, I kept quiet.  Why would I keep quiet when that person deserves a lesser grade?  The hassle just isn't worth it.  The quarter is over, I've slightly gotten over the issue, I don't want to contact the professor.  But can't this circumstance directly relate to work?  Don't some of your coworkers take on less work than they're assigned, while you get the brunt of it?  Would speaking up help fix this or just create a bad reputation for you?

Write

This is a mission to eliminate my need for the dreaded...Myspace.  I have a lot of blogs over there, and I have a plan to transfer them over at one point or another.  I will also have to transfer my pictures from there to my Facebook; I think that'll be easier.

I don't feel that I am much of a writer.  I've never written much for fun.  I do have some experience in poetry writing.  I was in journalism back in 5th grade.  I've taken the required English classes and an elective Creative Writing class.  This blog is moreso being written so I can get it out, write it down, spill my guts.  So here it is.  Take it or leave it; I'm not asking for much.
